Catch Masala Mix DJ's on the The Lennox Stage from 10am to 8pm and on the Dance Stage from 11.30am to 5.45pm
Miguel D’Souza and DJ Akaash started 2SER’s legendary Masala Mix in 1994. The radio show took the new Asian sounds out of the ‘world music’ genre, and burst bhangra-dance out of the ‘ethnic’ category and introduced Sydney’s music lovers to an entirely new fusion of Asian sounds, beats and electronic dance. The two marked the retirement of the Masala Mix with a series of legendary parties under the name Bend It Like Bhangra.
DJ Akaash, reigned over Sydney’s bhangra, desi and bollywood dance scene in the 1990s, released the CD compilation "Bhangra Explosion " on BMG in 1994 and also played at various global festivals like Bellingen Global Carnival, Wozone (Womadelaide), Hemispheres Music Festival to name a few.
Broadcaster, DJ and multimedia journalist Miguel D’Souza was a feature of the Sydney hip-hop and dance radio in the 1990s, starting both the Mothership Connection and the Masala Mix on 2SER before moving on to a career as a mainstream news journalist.
Together, these two DJs have been a critical part of the South Asian fusion, bhangra and bollywood scenes in Sydney for more than two decades
