Arabesk have been bringing their special brand of intoxicating global grooves to audiences around Australia since 2003.
In 2011 Arabesk won best instrumental track at The Australian Songwriters Awards and that year were invited to perform at Takatsuki Jazz Festival in Osaka, Japan for the rst time. In August 2016 they released their third album ‘Mr Fi’ and have spent the last two years touring and playing festivals in Australia and Japan including the 2015 Takatsuki Jazz Festival and 2016 Sumida Jazz Festival in Tokyo. Australian festival highlights include Blue Mountains Music Festival and Wangaratta Jazz Festival 2015, Clarence Jazz Festival Hobart, Palm Creek Folk Festival near Townsville and Manly International Jazz Festival Sydney in 2016. Arabesk topped off 2017 by again taking out 1st place for best instrumental track at the ASA Awards for ‘Waltz Ala Bra’ and 4th place in the same competition for ‘Big Bam Boo’. Both songs are from the 2016 release ‘Mr Fi’. ‘MrFi’ was recorded and mastered over a couple of weeks in the historic town of Bathurst, New South Wales. Featuring the work of Bathurst photographic artist Nicole Welch on the cover, this six track EP will lift your spirits and take you over the mountains and down the other side with a touch of tango, reggae rhythms, jazz avoured funky beats and even a traditional waltz!
Arabesk is Bulgarian born violin virtuoso Veren Grigorov, gypsy jazz guitar a cionado Rob Shannon, young up and coming jazz bassist Thomas Wade and Michigan born drummer extraordinaire Calvin Welch.
