David Hykes: The Harmonic Vision - Session 2
The Harmonic Presence work of the contemplative teacher, composer, singer and cultural visionary David Hykes includes the wondrous vocal "music of the spheres" called Harmonic Chant, as well as profound healing harmonisation practices and meditation training. The work is the fruit of his 40 years of artistic, spiritual and scientific studies and inspirations, inspired first and foremost by his teachers from the world's wisdom traditions. He has collaborated with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the neuroscientists of his Mind and Life Institute, the Gyuto and Gyume Monks, and composed music for the films “Travelers and Magicians” by Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, "Journey Into Buddhism," by John Bush, “Baraka" by Ron Fricke, and "Meetings with Remarkable Men," by Peter Brook. His 13 albums include "Hearing Solar Winds," the most popular vocal overtone album of all time, with over 300,000 copies sold, which inspired the growing world-wide renaissance of interest in "healing sounds."
David's Harmonic Presence teachings during the Parramasala festival are open to all, regardless of experience, and will allow participants to immerse themselves in a time-honored approach to well-being, health, music, spirituality, healing, and meditation. Participants will learn about and practice Harmonic Chant, regardless of their level of musical experience, as well as key healing and contemplative practices which re-connect the body, heart and mind.
David has taught his Harmonic Presence work since 1980, in retreats and seminars world-wide. His work relating music, meditation, mind, and healing harmonisation has led to collaboration with and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts in the USA, UNESCO, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the Flying Elephants Foundation, for his work developing a global sacred music for our time.
The harmonic echoes of the Big Bang resound everywhere to this very day; cosmology calls them the cosmic background radiation, or CBR. Helioseismologists study the million or so harmonic waves inside our own Sun. Our music on Earth is based on this omnipresent "music of the spheres." Harmonic Chant is the music of the spheres right here on Earth, a music that's been playing everywhere since the Beginning. Every musical sound we make or sing is in essence nothing other than the blend of pure primordial harmonics. Harmonic Chant gives life and creative expression here on Earth to this cosmic music, accessible to all- and often beautiful beyond words.
"David Hykes has opened a new dimension, bringing us the music of the spheres - the music of overtones which hold sway throughout the universe and govern all spatial and mathematical relationships. These wondrous sounds retain an extraordinary mystery and make every listener feel part of the great Whole." Lord Yehudi Menuhin
"David Hykes's music is haunting, transporting... it takes you somewhere completely otherworldly, to the Ancient Time. From the moment I heard it, there was no doubt...His fantastic new mantra album really takes me out there." Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche.
