David Hykes & The Harmonic Choir (France / USA / Sweden / Romania)

“… the slowly shifting euphonious chords affirmed that music has powers we generally forget.” The New York Times

"David Hykes's music is haunting and transporting. It takes you some place like the Sahara desert, somewhere completely otherworldly. It transports you to the Ancient Time." Revered incarnate Tibetan lama Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche

“…the total effect was a gentle, cumulative sense of quiet and a stretched out feeling of time.” The New York Times

Parramatta’s historic St John’s Cathedral will resonate with the transcendent music of one of the world’s most acclaimed artists. David Hykes makes his first appearance in Australia in 23 years, exclusive to Parramasala.

An award-winning composer-singer and film composer, David Hykes has explored sacred sound, healing and meditation, and has performed at festivals and spiritual centres all over the world. Hykes founded The Harmonic Choir, the western world's pre-eminent overtone ensemble, in New York in 1975. Since then the choir has released twelve albums, including the best-selling overtone album of all time, Hearing Solar Winds.

Described by The New York Times as a "composer-mystic", Hykes is also a singer, meditation teacher, retreat leader, visual artist and cultural contemplative who has collaborated musically with the likes of the Dalai Lama, Lord Yehudi Menuhin and North Indian raga singer and writer Sheila Dhar.

Having introduced Western audiences to the throat singing of Tuva, Tibet, and Mongolia, Hykes’s music begins with the traditional techniques from the East and expands them to suit his choir’s own contemporary needs.

His best-selling album The Harmonic Choir was chosen by Terrence Malick for his recent Palme d’Or winning film The Tree of Life. Hykes has also contributed to the soundtracks for Peter Weir’s  Dead Poets Society, Ghost and Blade.

Artists: David Hykes (USA/France) Timothy Hill (USA), Andrei Kivu (Romania/France), Seth Markel (USA), Joel Bluestein (USA), Andreas Konvicka (Sweden)
